Lester A. Frye – City of Charlottesville Resident
Tell us about your volunteer activities.
For the past three years I have been volunteering at Computers4Kids. I enjoy mentoring the young men I have worked with. They were and are eager to learn. Everybody knows if you volunteer you become a better and wiser person; especially when you are working with kids, like the ones from Computers4Kids.
What inspires you to volunteer?
I have always wanted to mentor for years and when I was asked to be a mentor for Computers4Kids I knew that this was where I could make a difference in someone’s life.
If your volunteer work could make one long-lasting change, what would you want it to be?
To acknowledge that there are a lot of good people out there – sometimes you just have to look around.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I think I was the first African American in Madison County, VA to join the U.S. Coast Guard.
What brought you to Charlottesville/Albemarle County?
I moved to Charlottesville to go to college. I attended Piedmont Community College on the G.I. Bill. I got a job in the electronics field and worked in the field for 35 years.
